Education has a proclivity for buzzwords.  Buzzwords have a bad reputation for a lot of reasons.  One is that they get hollowed out, coming to mean nothing before fading away, replaced by new buzzwords.  Plenty of people think "design" and "design thinking" are buzzwords.  Time will tell whether they are right.  In the meantime, this session will look at one, ambitious school design and design process — Powderhouse Studios (and its story)—as an attempt to understand three exemplary, structural obstacles to design being taken seriously at the classroom, school, and district level.
